Hitachi Chemical developed Quantum Dot Enhancement Film (QDEF®) using Nanosys Hyperion™ Quantum Dot Technology and will begin mass production during the second half of 2017
Milpitas, Calif., May 16, 2017 – Nanosys, the Quantum Dot company, today received the 2017 Display Industry Awards (DIA) Display Component of the Year award for its Hyperion Quantum Dot technology from the Society for Information Display (SID).
Presented by the SID, the 2017 DIAs recognize innovative display products, components, and applications that hold the most promise for shaping the future of the global display industry. The DIAs are awarded each year in three categories: Display of the Year, Display Application of the Year, and Display Component of the Year.
“The SID Display Industry Awards recognize the best display products or applications introduced to the market during the previous calendar year," noted Wei Chen, SID’s Display Industry Awards Committee Chairman. We are proud to award Nanosys a 2017 Display Component of the Year honor for its Hyperion Quantum Dots. We commend the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and to helping shape the future of display performance and solutions.”
Nanosys has selected global electronic materials manufacturer Hitachi Chemical as the lead manufacturing partner for Hyperion QDEF. Hitachi Chemical will begin sampling quantum dot film using Nanosys Hyperion Quantum Dot Technology. Mass production volumes will be available to display makers during the second half of 2017.
Hyperion Quantum Dots represent a significant development breakthrough in unlocking the market for displays meeting the ambitious BT.2020 color gamut standard that is already in use for UltraHD content distribution today.
Hyperion Quantum Dots match the color performance of the industry’s best cadmium-based quantum dot materials with over 90% BT.2020 color gamut coverage. However, unlike cadmium-based materials, Hyperion Quantum Dot films do not require an exemption to the European Union’s Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. This is because Hyperion Quantum Dots are made using a novel manufacturing technique that combines a cadmium-free red emitter with an ultra-low cadmium green emitter. Hyperion Quantum Dots are fully compatible with Nanosys proprietary QDEF manufacturing process, giving the technology a clear path for rapid deployment at low cost.
The 2017 DIAs will be presented to the winners at the Symposium Luncheon on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, during Display Week 2017: The SID Annual International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition in Los Angeles, California. Visitors to the DisplayWeek show can also see a demonstration of Hyperion Quantum Dot technology at Nanosys booth #321.
