Upgrading Demo-Worthy Movies to 4K HDR with ASUS Quantum Dot Monitor

The 4K HDR format is a success. Most new TVs and mobile devices offer great HDR experiences and consumers have access to well over 1,000 pieces of HDR content from classic movies and TV shows to the latest releases.

Still, not every movie ever released is available in HDR. There are a few titles we’ve always thought might benefit from an official HDR remastering. So, when Vincent Teoh of HDTVTest reached out with the idea to remaster some of these films into 4K HDR using the amazing ASUS PA329UCG MiniLED quantum dot monitor, we jumped at the chance to sponsor his work.

Working from 1080P SDR source material found on BluRay discs, Vincent brought new life to a few classic films including Avatar, Kill Bill and TRON: Legacy. The ultra wide color gamut of the ASUS PA329UCG, which delivers >90% BT.2020 color gamut coverage, enabled Vincent to take the rich sci-fi worlds found in Avatar and Tron to totally new heights.
