Nanosys, part of Shoei Chemical, Inc, will give a featured presentation at this October's OLEDs World Summit in Seoul. The show’s organizers spoke with Dr. ZhongSheng Luo, Vice President of Sales and General Manager of Product Development at Nanosys, to get a sneak peek of what we can expect from his presentation. Here's what he had to say...
Q1. We are excited to hold OLEDs World Summit and Phosphors & Quantum Dots Industry Forum 2023 in Seoul this October. Dr Luo, You will share the topic “ From Micrograms to Tonnes: Enabling the Large-Scale Deployment of Quantum Dots” this year, Can you give us a snapshot of what delegates will hear?
This conference coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the first commercial launch of Nanosys QDEF quantum dot technology for displays. The first QDEF display was the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7, a 7” tablet, launched in October 2013. Back then, the company had developed QD manufacturing capacity of approximately 10kg per week. Since then, we have shipped over 140,000 kgs of QD materials across millions of displays. Today, our QD manufacturing capacity can easily exceed 1500kg per week. In this talk, we will outline the transformative journey of QD manufacturing and present future advancements in QD manufacturing technology to support the growing demand in the display market.
Q2. What do you think are the key challenges facing the industry in 2023 and 2024?
I see two key challenges facing the QD, phosphor and OLED industries in 2023 and 2024. The first is relatively weak or uncertain consumer demand. At the same time, we also see downward product price pressure and rising inflation that combine to create additional cost pressure for component suppliers. Navigating these challenges will be key for everyone in the display supply chain over the next couple of years.
Q3. Why do you feel it's important for people to attend the Forum this year?
[Z. Luo] The display industry is in a fast-changing era with many new technologies on the horizon that could bring picture quality and power efficiency to new levels. Understanding the potential impacts of these new technologies will be critical for the supply chain and investors as decisions are made to invest in and develop next-generation display technologies.
