Nanosys Quantum Dots at CES 2023
Jan 20, 2023
We just wrapped up another great year at CES 2023 and here’s a roundup of what this year’s show had to offer. The top trends for display technology seem to be bigger, brighter, faster, flexible, and in automotive. 85” TVs are the new 65”. LCD, QD-OLED and OLED are all competing on brightness offering over 2,000 nits. 240hz is the new standard for gamers. Displays of all types are experimenting with flexibility. Displays are everywhere now even in automotive. But not just inside the car, they’re now on the hood of cars too.
Here are all the QD news we saw from brands on the show floor:
Acer
“Acer is introducing two new large Predators — the Helios 16 and the Helios 18. With the latest and greatest from Intel and Nvidia, both of these laptops are fully ready to support their mini-LED displays and deliver some top-notch visuals.
You can choose between an IPS and a mini-LED panel for each, and for the 16-inch model, that means a choice between an IPS with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a mini-LED display. The IPS comes with either 165Hz or 240Hz refresh rates, while the mini-LED features 250Hz. Acer says that the mini-LED panel packs 1,000 local dimming zones, and the display can hit 1,000 nits of peak brightness.” -Monica J. White for Digital Trends

“Samsung’s 8K flagship, and, in its own words “crafted to be the ideal television,” is the QN900C. It picks up where 2022’s QN900B left off, with even better picture quality thanks to a big jump in backlight control. Our reviewer was deeply impressed with the QN900B‘s ability to generate deep blacks and super-bright images, with virtually no light leakage, but that TV only had 36 areas of local dimming control. The QN900C ups that number to an astonishing 1,000 areas.” –Simon Cohen for Digital Trends
-
“The QN95C also gets new dimming and 14-bit processing for claimed improvements in brightness and grayscale control, leading to the more accurate rendering of both luminance and details.” –Simon Cohen for Digital Trends
