Back at CES 2021 LG, the company most synonymous with OLED TV, surprised TV industry followers by announcing a new range of Quantum Dot miniLED TVs. Dubbed “QNED”, the TVs were to be the first from LG to use Quantum Dots for improved color and brightness.
Fast forward a few months and LG’s first Quantum Dot TVs are now on their way to market. The QNED TVs for the US will feature two series in 4K and 8K formats with up to 30,000 LED backlights in sizes from 65” to a massive 86”. All models are expected to be available for purchase in July

In addition to using thousands of mini-LEDs for better brightness and contrast, LG’s QNED TVs also use the company’s quantum dot nanocell technology. These tiny particles help to improve the TV’s color accuracy without diminishing overall brightness. LG claims that its QNED TVs achieve 100% of the Digital Cinema Initiatives’ P3 color space (DCI-P3) — an important capability if you want to see movies in their full glory.
